Saturday left Hobart for the west coast target Queenstown. Day was cool and the drive was very pleasant passing many small towns and country farms. Had brunch at a small Cafe in Hamilton. Owner had a 4 year old girl who entertained us while we were there with endless questions and discussions. Called in to the Tasmanian Hydro Electric scheme which was amazing piece of engineering which started in 1935 and completed in early 50s. Silent quiet power for the whole state and some exported to Victoria.  Just before Derwent Bridge we visited the The Wall. This is a 12 year project by a local sculptor to depict local history by wood carvings on wooden slabs 3m high by 2m wide making up a double sided wall some 30m long. It is housed inside a large long  building. Had lunch at the Hungry Wombat Cafe before driving on to Queenstown on 50klms of amazing winding road with 99 corners and switchbacks. Queenstown is an old copper mining town still supposedly the biggest town on the west coast. It is mainly made up of old basic timber and fibro houses. The whole day saw a maximum temperature of 14 degrees down to 7 degrees at night.
