Wednesday after picking up the car we headed off for Port Arthur via Sorell. The 90k trip through mostly open countryside led us to this historical sites. I for one was pleasantly surprised and Port Arthur exceeded my expectations but quite a measure. It is a truly amazing place whose historical importance and presence is unfortunately overshadowed by the shooting event in the 90s. The scale of the sites, the church and the other buildings are true historical treasures for Australia and in deed the UK. I was as taken with Port Arthur as I was with any of the sights I saw in Europe. I am unsure but feel this is a sites underrated by Australians. This is a must see and experience. The history here is breathtaking. Also went on the 20 min boat cruise detailing dead man's island, which was the off shore cementary, and the offshore boys prison.
On way back to the room, we stopped to get some local fruit, yummy. Cherries, apricots, apples, peaches, pears, nectarines.
Have experienced the most wonderful weather, with no temps over 23 degrees. A most welcome relief from the oppressive heat back in Maryborough. Even had some rain over night. Ahhhhh.
